A breath of fresh air for Percival

I’m feeling really out of sorts at the moment and have for some time really.  Lacking in motivation and very lethargic.  Even my dolls aren’t inspiring me like they usually do.  Still I decided that Percival and I ought to get to know each other a bit better.  He has been very quiet as well lately just sitting, thinking and observing, so I thought he ought to go outside and get a breath of fresh air while it wasn’t raining.  Of course we have the constant roar of the M25 which isn’t helping at all at the moment, it is really getting to me.

Something seems to be interesting him

Quite the poser he has turned out to be.

Must make him some clothes though!

Candy Stripes

Chrissy is getting the attention at the moment, and I finished a second knitted outfit for her today, a dress ‘Candy Stripes’.  Again this is part of August’s KAL.  I still have the bag and hat to make which I will make a start on this evening.  I am really liking her colouring.  On one of the AG groups I belong to, many have said she isn’t very photogenic, but I think she is.

Image

I love the colours I chose for this dress and think they suit her well.

Image

Her ‘meet’ shoes also go with the dress well.

ImageThe pale yellow adds a nice contrast to the violet/purple.

Image

I think she looks pretty happy with it on a whole.  Of course I have been asked to hurry up and finish the matching bag and hat!

Red Splash!

I belong to several doll knitting groups on Ravelry and enjoy taking part in the KAL (Knit A Longs)  I have finally finished the main part of July’s KAL a coat, pattern by Astrid Aesoey.  I still need to make a hat and a bag, but they can wait as August’s KAL has started and I am looking forward to it.

Chrissy likes the Lady bird buttons.

Now she could have done with matching shoes, but demanded to model the coat straight away without any thought of what else she was wearing.

A little cheeky look!

Thinking…

Charity, Edwin and Mabel were out sitting on the bench seat, having a little discussion about ‘the old days’.   Some reminiscing was going on, Charity telling them about her days on the stage, whilst Edwin was remembering going to the circus with his parents in the days when they used to have animals doing all sorts of tricks.  Mabel recalls thinking that it was rather cruel having the animals and is glad that sort of thing doesn’t happen anymore.

Just as Mabel is about to tell the other two about her trips to the seaside, she sees someone approaching.

‘Oh dear, who is coming along now’ Charity thinks to herself with a slightly bored and fed up look on her face… ‘I’d been hoping so much I’d have a little peace and quiet today’ she sighs.

Striding purposefully along is Percival, looking like he is on a mission, completely oblivious to the three companions enjoying the afternoon sun.

“Ah hem…”

What was that?  Percival is suddenly aware that there are others around…

Oh hello, what are you all doing sitting there?  Shouldn’t you be busy doing something?

“Are you busy?”  Charity asks him.  “Looks like you were in a dream to me”

“A dream?  Me?  Oh no, I was busy thinking!  Very important you know thinking.   If more people thought, there would be a lot of thinking going on you know”.  Percival replies

“Oh quite!”  replies Mabel, with a twinkle in her eye.  “So tell me what YOU were thinking about Percy”

“Well…” begins Percival.  “Erm…wait a minute did you just call me Percy?  Please, none of this shortening of names, it is quite uncouth.  My name is Percival von Stardust…or you can call me Professor, but certainly not Percy!”

Mabel, Charity and Edwin just look at Percival as he gets all flustered waving his arms around in protest.

“Now where was I?  Ah, thinking that is what I was doing…” and Percival starts to sit down.

Edwin looks at Charity who in turn is watching Percival, who suddenly seems to have quite a glazed look on his face.  Charity is rather puzzled by such a character and wonders how she ended up mixing with such an unusual group of friends.

Hey there Baby Face

Introducing another of my dolls today, this time a Galoob Baby Face Number 2 from the first issue ‘So Surprised Suzie’.  A little while ago I read about some very cute faced baby dolls on Bama’s blog Dolls of an Era and thought how cute they were.  Well I didn’t actively go looking for one, but while browsing Ebay one day (like you do) looking for something else, I came across ‘So Surprised Suzie’ and well the rest is history.    I don’t think her dress is original, but apart from that she is in good condition and her joints all work well…she bends at the knees and elbows and can stand.  She needs a bath but is currently enjoying herself playing and rolling about on the grass.  I will have to keep an eye out for her original dress and shoes and find a couple of red ribbons for her crimped hair pony tails.  More can be read about the history of these dolls here.

Isn’t she a cutie?

I’ve made my first doll – Patricia

Quite some time ago I was given some porcelain dolls heads and limbs which have lain languishing in a box ever since.   Yesterday I thought I would have a go at making my first doll.  Apart from the fact that she looks a bit like she is flying with her arms out to the side I am pleased with how she has turned out.  I will have to make some clothes for her yet as she has borrowed one of the Sasha dresses I made a year or so ago.  I think it quite suits her.  I have named her Patricia after the lady that gave me the box of heads & limbs.

Charity finds a young boy in the garden

The weather was superb yesterday, oh what a change and an absolute delight to see blue skies.  Charity certainly enjoyed lapping up the sunshine and went for an early evening walk in the garden.  She was ever so surprised to see what looked like a little boy riding the tortoise in the rose garden.

Image

She went closer as at first she really couldn’t believe her eyes.  Yes it was definitely a little boy!

Image

Hello little boy, what is your name and what are you doing here?

The little boy turns to have a look at who had spoken to him.  He was quite unaware that he had been observed and was rather startled to see Charity standing before him.

Shyly the little boy tells Charity his name is Edwin and that he is lost and doesn’t know where he is.  The last thing he remembers was being shut up in a  glass cabinet amongst other dolls and treasures of all kinds of shapes and sizes.

Image

Charity puts her arm round Edwin.  There there now young Edwin, never you mind, come with me, Lets take you in and give you something nice to eat and perhaps see about cleaning you up a little bit and see if you can stay with us.

Image

Edwin hops down from the tortoise and follows Charity inside, wondering what it will be like living here with the happy looking lady with the rosy cheeks and flowers in her hair.

Chrissy’s new dress

Introducing one of my American Girls, Chrissy, wearing a little summer dress I made for her yesterday as we have finally got some sunshine.  I think she is going to offer it to another girl though as it is a wee bit tight under the arms which is a shame as I think the colour suits her so well.  I will have to see if I have enough of the fabric (recycled sheet I believe it was) to make another.

Chrissy is hoping to get a chance to play with Kit & Kat today, the terrible twosome, lets hope they don’t lead her into mischief!

Sunshine & Blue Sky

Yesterday evening I sat down and knitted a little dress for my Corolle Les Cheries doll Chloe.  I haven’t had her long, and she was still in her ballet outfit and wanted to get out and play as she had heard that today was going to be good weather!  Wow, what a change, it is indeed nice and sunny outside today, although there is a slight breeze which keeps things cool and not too hot.  What better colours to knit with than sunshine yellow and blue sky blue, nice and cheerful.  Barefoot and fancy free!

Sun, Songs and Smiles from Charity

Charity couldn’t wait to get outside today to have a look at the flowers in the garden.  She had been promised that if she consented to hand surgery…her hands being unfortunately attached to the wrong sides of her body…then afterwards as a treat she could spend some time smelling the flowers.  Well she was tired of trying to do things with her hands the wrong way round, so of course was happy to go through some slight discomfort.  She was well rewarded and was amazed at what  a difference it made with her thumbs the right way up.  What joy she would have now handling things.

Gosh this flower matches my dress so beautifully.  What a pretty lily it is.

I think I will spend some time taking in its scent. Oh it doesn’t smell at all, what a shame.

I really do want to try and find something that smells nice.  That shop was so musty and smelly and I still feel I have the remnants of that smell wafting around me.

Oh this flower is pretty…it is a beautiful rose.  Hmmm….doesn’t really go with my skirt, but MY does it smell divine.

Just look at this Super Trouper – isn’t it beautiful.  Now that name rings a bell or two for me….

Super Trouper, lights are gonna find me

Shining like the sun….

Oh yes NOW I remember, certainly brings back some fond memories….
